Borinquen Dance Theater will be performing traditional Puerto Rican dances, Bomba and La Plena, to welcome and entertain guests:
- Bomba is a traditional dance in Puerto Rico that pays tribute to their ancestors enslaved on the island. The white costumes represent the cleansing and clarity of its spirit to overcome the history of enslavement. Boma's improvisational rhythm became a common language, a dialogue between drummers and dancers that brought the island's oppressed people closer together. This dance will be performed as guests enter the stadium around 5:15 PM.
- La Plena is a traditional Puerto Rican dance popular during festivals, holidays, and civic protests. It is used to tell stories and share information about current events, and it is joined by singing, clapping, and dancing among the audience. Plena was considered a newspaper for the people. The three ruffles of the colorful costumes represent the Taino-Arawak, African, and European influences. This dance will be performed on the field.
