UNITED WAY'S ROC THE DAY RAISES NEARLY $1 MILLION IN 24 HOURS
600 Nonprofits Benefit from United Way’s Online Giving Event
ROCHESTER, NY – In just 24 hours, United Way’s ROC the Day raised $992,727 through 6,819 donations and matching gifts to support 600 nonprofits in a nine-counter Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region. ROC the Day is a 24-hour, online giving extravaganza that gives people in our community an opportunity to support local nonprofit organizations doing great work. Donors were able to browse through a catalog of over 600 nonprofits and give to causes they care about in one, easy transaction.
ROC the Day, an initiative of United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes, has made an incredible impact over its 14-year history. To date, this initiative has raised over $12 million to support nonprofits across the nine-county region.
"This year’s ROC the Day was a powerful reminder of what our community can accomplish when we work together. Every donation, no matter the size, helps strengthen the incredible work of our local nonprofits,” says Jaime Saunders President and CEO of United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our donors, nonprofits, and community partners who made this day of giving a success!”
ROC the Day sparked even more donations through two incentives:
- Every odd hour (1 a.m., 3 a.m., etc.), a ROCstar donor was randomly chosen to give an extra $500 to the nonprofit of their choice. The agency chosen also received a Salvatore’s Old- Fashioned Pizzeria gift card to celebrate and thank their team for all of their hard work.
- Additionally, every even hour (2 a.m., 4 a.m., etc.) the registered nonprofit with the highest number of unique donors received an extra $500 bonus.
A special thank you to our hourly bonus sponsors Glover-Crask Charitable Trust and Salvatore’s.
