Top 5 reasons to Become a Sustaining Donor

Posted on Wednesday, 14 February 2024

United Way’s work in the Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region is only possible because of the generous support from compassionate individuals like you. Together we’re closing gaps, opening opportunities for our neighbors, and building a stronger, more equitable six-county region. We are looking to do even more in 2024 and are asking you to consider becoming a sustaining donor. As a sustaining donor, your continuous support will enable us to plan better, act faster, and reach further.

Here are five reasons why many supporters choose to make recurring donations:

  1. Convenience: As a sustaining donor, you set the amount and frequency of your donations, which are then automatically deducted from your account. You can change or stop your donation at any time.
  2. Budget-Friendly: Spreading your support throughout the year is easier on your budget and gives us the resources we need to continue our work.
  3. Consistency: Your recurring donation provides a reliable source of funding, allowing us to plan ahead, continue our efforts with confidence, and maximize the effectiveness of our programs.
  4. Efficiency: Recurring donations reduce administrative costs, meaning more of your generous gift goes directly towards helping our communities thrive.
  5. Impact: Your continuous support allows us to make long-term commitments to projects and initiatives, maximizing our impact in the community. Monthly donations add up over time, making a significant impact in the lives of those we serve.

The challenges over the past few years have demonstrated just how much we need each other. With your ongoing support, we can ensure that every individual and family in our community has the support they need to weather any storm.

Become a sustaining donor and see how your ongoing support can make all the difference:

$21 per month: After-school fun—and learning!—for local kids
Did you know that in 2022, 3rd graders
in our region tested below the New York State standard for English language arts and math?

$42 per month: Nutritious meals for local homebound older adults
Did you know more than 152,000 residents in our region are food insecure?

$84 per month: Credit counseling for low-income people
Did you know 1 in 3 of our neighbors have limited resources to meet their basic needs?

We understand that everyone's financial situation is different and want to remind you of other ways to contribute. Did you know that recurring donations are an option for donor advised funds (DAF) gifts? Many supporters choose to give from DAFs as they are a more “tax-savvy” option than giving cash.

Help us strengthen our community by becoming a sustaining donor today. Your support, in whatever form it takes, is deeply appreciated.
