Advocating for Our Six-County Region

More than 400 United Way leaders from across the country—including our own Erin Bombard, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, and MarcAnthony Bucci, Associate Director of Regional Engagement—recently gathered in Washington, D.C. to meet with lawmakers and advocate for key issues impacting our communities.

Following two days of policy briefings and advocacy training, Bucci and Bombard met with the offices of Representative Claudia Tenney and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to discuss several priority areas:

  • Financial Security – Educating lawmakers on the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population and exploring ways to help families move from surviving to thriving.
  • Child Care – Advocating for the protection of Head Start and ensuring all children have equitable opportunities to succeed.
  • 211 – Securing federal funding for this vital, 24/7 helpline that connects millions of New Yorkers with critical resources—from housing and food assistance to mental health support.

For more than 100 years, United Way has been committed to helping every person in every community thrive. Bringing these conversations to the federal level is a crucial step toward making that vision a reality.

As the world grows more complex, United Way remains grounded in its mission, values, and communities—serving as your voice, your champion, and your greatest advocate.
